These numbers were found on the block of my '70 Chevell SS 396. What do they mean?

My book say's it can be either a 68-69 396 truck application, a 69 passenger car (chevelle, Camaro or Nova) or a 70 -72 402 truck block. Do you have the VIN# and the # stamped on the passenger side cylinder head pad, behind the alternator? That will give you more clue's.
