Has anybody used the 3M red brand of sandpaper? What did you think?

I need a few grits of the 2 3/4" rolled psa paper, 80, 180 and 320.

Thanks.

I've used some of it this past few months, it's not too bad. Every bit as good IMO as that purple crap 3M pawned off on us.....

How does it compare with Norton with price and longevity? I'm talking shop prices, not a hobbiest price. Bear in mind what I pay locally is different that what a non-account pays.

Can't say, I don't use any Norton stuff. I pay like $14 +/- for a box of 50 sheets of 6 inch hookit. Don't remember what the rolls cost. Try it, you might like it. Generally it's cheap enough to try....

Thanks Dave, a phone call just got me off of Norton and on to Sunmite. 50% savings. Not sure why Red is the cheapest but shops are giving mixed reviews to my jobber. A rep states the Sunmite's backing paper has better longevity in Velcro and Stick-it, and he uses the products also. We shall see. I'll have them throw me some sample Reds and try it. Norton has gone up 3 times in 2 years.

I think 3M realized that people were tired of paying the outrageous price for stuff, and needed to make a line to compete with the other brands. We had switched from the purple Hookit II junk to the gold Hookit paper right before I left the dealership shop.... much better stuff.... then I started my own shop, and got some samples of the red stuff, I like it. And I REALLY like the price....

I'm sure you guys pay less, but I just bought 2 3/4x 25 yrds. PSA of 80 grit for $18.81 and 180 and 320 for $14.41. Not bad.

I like 3M paper, and I don't mind paying a premium price if the product is better. Started buying Mirka paper 5 years ago, and found it to be as good as the top 3M gold paper, at way less cost. The only 3M stuff I use now is the 3" velcro backed discs for my little detail sander, and only because that is the only line my local jobber carries for it! The Mirka paper is top notch and lasts just as long as the 3M paper. I would switch back to 3M if they were a better value, but I don't see that happening.
