I've owned my 70 since 1983 and have never had the front calipers rebuilt. How often should this be done and any suggestions on where to have it done at?

thanks

Why rebuild when you can exchange them as cores for fresh loaded calipers at your local autoparts store? O'Reilly's or Autozone have them for about $50 each.

Rebuilt calipers can be had pretty cheaply. I paid $13 each at Checker about a year ago. The in store price was better than what was on the web site. It costs almost that much to buy the rebuild kits. The calipers I got were bare, that is they did not include the brake pads.

Learning as I go! Didn't know I could just exchange them for rebuilt ones at my local parts store. I'm gonna call today. Thanks

Raybestos rebuilt calipers, loaded, are 49.95. I've had them on the Chevelle for around 75,000 miles now with no problems. First quality from a known company.

They are pretty easy to rebuild if you want to save a few bucks. I have done it a couple of times, I think I paid about $5/side for the last seal kits I bought. But now when I'm old and lazy, I don't think it's really worth the effort anymore. Easier and less mess to go to Auto Zone, Advance, NAPA etc., and get nice, clean rebuilt calipers, ready to put on the car. Some cheaper rebuilds are not painted, but that's a minor problem.
