: Where to get good springs?
RingMaster4x4 Mar 15th, 04, 1:45 PM I am looking for a set of springs to go on my chevelle that I am going to put a 454 in. I want a good stiff spring but not so stiff that I can't drive it on the road. I would also like to keep the factory ride height. You help in greatly needed. Thanks
raiderjefe Mar 15th, 04, 1:49 PM My car is a 69 el camino, and I got truck springs that also had a big block, and they are fine.

RingMaster4x4 Mar 16th, 04, 11:54 AM hey TOM'S 68 CONV,
Where can I find the spring that you are taking about?
Tom's 68 Mar 16th, 04, 8:44 PM napa
or a more expensive type auto store
auto zone, national auto and cheaper places like those don't carry them normally
just gotta call around and ask the different parts stores in your area
Big James 4XL Mar 16th, 04, 11:16 PM When I swapped the big block into Ol Paint I got springs from NPD for a BB Elky. the ride height ended up exactly the same as with the small block set up. Rides a little stiffer in the front but that's a good thing in my opinion.
RingMaster4x4 Mar 17th, 04, 11:39 AM I found some at NAPA and there are two types (regular and H/D) any idea what the differince is?
70ChevelleRagtop Mar 19th, 04, 12:31 AM My 70 454 convertible got an entirely new suspension last year. I went with Moog (did someone else say that!?!?!). I got mine from Classic Muscle ( www.oldmusclecars.com (http://www.oldmusclecars.com) ). Their part#'s are CS5450 and CS5413 (sorry I don't have the Moog #'s). $149.90 plus tax and shipping. Check out the photos below to see how it sits. The ride is great! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
71and a half Mar 21st, 04, 12:45 AM HOCHKIS! My 71" handles better then any car I have dirven, (and I have a 84 toyota pickup that rides on the bump-stops) Its expensive but well worth it.
blaster Mar 21st, 04, 1:08 AM im about to change springs in my 72. Are the hochkis stock height?
Gokou Mar 21st, 04, 5:11 PM If you want stock height, buy the Moogs. They are OEM replacement and will put the car back to stock ride height with the stock spring rates. They are also about your only option if you want stock ride height.
If you want to drop the car a little, my suggestion is to go with Eibach's (Edelbrock sells them under their name also.) Great springs.
IMO our cars look like 4x4's at stock ride height, so my preference is for mild (1-1.5" drop or so) spring. When I still had my stock suspension I used the Edelbrock/Eibach springs and was VERY happy. The ride height was great, and they were just stiff enough to help the handling a good amount without crashing and banging over bumps.
Again, if you want to keep the factory ride height go with the Moogs. They appear to be the only manufacturer of stock height springs. The car will ride quite good, but expect an OEM (softer) ride with them. At the very least get the stiffer springs from the F41 (sport suspension) cars. They are very good quality springs, can't go wrong with them.

Parrydise7 Mar 23rd, 04, 10:23 PM If you are a fanatic for correctness, go to acdelco.com. You can do a search for factory original springs. I haven't checked yet, but you should be able to order them from the dealer.
Tomorrow I'm going to check on the price.
RingMaster4x4 Mar 24th, 04, 11:39 AM I am not a fanatic for correctness, all I am doing is looking for a look and I am trying to figure out how to get it. again thanks for the help guys I will check out the links you gave and get back to you all.
