Ran into a similar problem when I mounted a 79 T/A dual diaphragm booster in my 72. What I did was measure the length of the booster rod from the mounting bracket to the end of the rod. Tightened the T/A rod and booster into a vice and cut the T/A rod off to the same length. Threaded the T/A rod. Believe it's a 5/16 course thread on the Chevelle rod. Put the Clevis on with the adjustment nut. The major (outer) threads on the T/A rod were slightly rounded because the T/A rod was a little undersize. After the booster was adjusted in the car, added a little JB Weld behind the nut as a precaution.
