: Need new 65 frame, anything else work?

I think I need a new frame
for my 65. There seems to be too many places that are going to need repair. I believe getting a replacement might be a cheaper route.

What other frame will interchange with a 65 Malibu or am I limited to just Chevelle's?

Thanks,
Jeff

jeff, get a frame from 65 -67 2dr, 4dr post or hardtop they are all the same. other a body cars may also use the same frame but i think the front horns are different on olds. i have a extra frame to sell.

2 door frames and 4 door frames are not the same wheel base. They do not interchange.

Tom, I now think you are right. They all have a 115 inch wheel base. I've passed over alot of nice 4 door frames on my projects because I always "HEARD" they were different. And now, I'm passing that along. DUMB ME

2 door and 4 door frames are different ONLY on 68-72 cars. Wheelbase is 4" longer on a 4-door.

Keep in mind that although a 1967 frame will work, the upper rear spring pockets are different than the 65-66. Any GM A-body 2-dr/4-dr frame (Olds Cutlass, Buick Skylark, Pontiac LeMans/GTO, Chevelle) will work. El Camino and Station Wagon frames are 3" longer behind the rear wheels so you could use one of them and shorten it.

There are a bunch of clean '65 F-85 Olds frames in the area. I thought one of those would work. I couldn't see the difference between the two frames. Even the body mount points appear to be identical.

By the 'horns' you mean the front portion of the main rails right? The only difference I could find there is there are two bolt hols on the Olds frame on the driver side and on my 65 I only see one. They don't seem to be used anyways.

I called every Olds person I knew and they weren't sure of the interchangability. I did find that the hollander manual says it won't interchange with a F-85 of the same year, so I have not gone that route. But it didn't say why.

Oh, so a 67 will work then? And the body mount points are the same?

The spring pocket difference is whether the springs are 'pigtail' or not right? The 65-66 has the pigtail and the 67 does not? That is what I have gathered from info off the Net.

If that is the case, what, regarding springs would I need to modify or be aware of? Just get different springs?

thanks everyone

David...

Are you sure a F-85 frame would work? The hollander manual says it will not. But frankly, I don't believe the manual.

i did look in my books last night and the 65 - 67 frames are the same wheel base, as derek says begining in 68 the wheelbase changed. slowpoke i'm just trying to put out good info for everybody. does anyone know for sure about olds frames interchangability. tom

Tom, I looked it up also after I read your post. Thanks, the last couple of 69's I did needed frames and I just got that mixed up with the 67's. But I recently did a 67 GS and that frame was different than the 67 Chevelle. The rear of the frame kick-up where the bumper bolts on. So, I don't know that all 67 A bodies are the same as some one mentioned. But, thanks for letting me know all 67 frames 2 door and 4 door will inter change.

I believe the BOP frames are longer from the rear axle to the rear bumper.

I have a spare '65 frame I'd be happy to part with. It needs a rear cross member (the one behind the rear bumper) which you could salvage from your old frame more than likely. The frame I have is very solid, never been hit.
