OK, I should have taken a pic before I took it apart but... Can anyone tell me how the cables and the return spring attach on my '69 (this little detail doesn't seem to be in the assembly manual!)? I think the spring goes on the bold that goes into the bed? Also, does the longer of the two bolts go into the bed as well? How is the spring retained?

Enough questions, any help appreciated... (A picture would be a wonderful thing).

The longer bolt goes on the tailgate, with the spring around it. There's a tiny hole in the tailgate, with a little plastic insert, that accepts one end of the spring, so it can't spin.

dont forget theres a left and right spring. if you get them mixed, when you shut the gate, the spring will lift the cable UP. (I have 2 lefts on my 68) im just too lazy to pull the one on the right side. jim
