Most of my muscle car buddies talk about "going back to disc brakes". I was wondering what the benefits are of disc brakes. Is it because they want the car to be original? All I know is if what I got stops me, I'm cool  - what are the benefits of drum vs. disc? My 67 is high performance, I have drum brakes anf they don't stop that fast, would disc brakes stop quicker?

There are several major benefits, and probably some minor ones as well! Major ones include: Better stopping, much less brake fade under repeated stopping, don't go away when wet, and easier to use!

My suggestion is to always go for the disk brakes... it could save your life or more importantly, someone elses!! It really sucks that many people make their cars go fast, but then they never upgrade the brakes to make it stop better!!

If you enjoy driveing the car get Disk brakes.
If original is more important, Park the car and keep the Drums.

my drums work great. i might go to discs in the future, but drums are fine for now. just gotta know how to use them. its nice to have a strong foot too. i hate power brakes, i being able to feel the car. but it all depends on how you drive. if your getting off the freeway at 80mph, you may noticed a big difference in stopping, i do, i make sure i slow down. if you have drums, just make sure they are well maintained.

Nobody in their right mind would have changed a car from disk to drum because that's a downgrade so it's not likely you'd convert to disks to go back to origional. The change to disks would be to get better stopping and eliminate the pulling that drum brakes often experience.

John, the problem is that you know they don't stop as well so you watch the driving but the person that will pull out in front of you or change lanes or something cutting you off or requiring you to stop quicker than you planned doesn't know or care that you have drums and can't stop as quickly.
