I have a 66 chevelle ss I just bought (in pretty rough shape I might add) that I am going to do a ground up on. It has been my dream car ever since I can remember. I want the car to handle and brake like a dream, and it is going to have a 396 and most likely a 5 speed tranny. I am very new to this and still learning and this is what I am thinking so far. 4 wheel disc brake setup from cpp with 2" drop spindles, coil over springs, tubular upper a arms, polyurethane bushings, ect. I want to put 17 x 9.5 or 10 wheels under the rear and 17 x 8 under the front. Any other ideas on how I can make this car handle, brake, and drive great without robbing the bank? Do I need to change the lower a arms or can I get away with using stock? What else do I need to be thinking of as far as the rolling chassis goes besides changing out the obvious parts that will be no good since the car has been sitting for 25 years? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated since I am so new to this. I have already learned quite a bit from reading this forum, and I want to learn more.

I would really define the intended purpose for the car before you start identifying parts you want to use.
Stock suspension works fine to a point. Just bolting a sway bar on my 66 made a world of difference(was scary before that). I like taking a quick turn like anyone else does, but Im not going to try to make a 50+ year old car handle like a new vette either; though I bet there are a few cars on this site that if I were to ride in them it might change my mind.
If you just want it to handle better than it did when it was new, those CPP parts should be fine(thats what I went with), but if you want it to HANDLE!, then I'd do a little more reading around here.

The CPP big brake kit is a good up grade for the money. As far as control arms are concerned I would call Marcas @ SC&C. Here is his web site. http://www.scandc.com
He is very very Helpful. Also Look into a hotchkis TVS kit for your car to go along with the SPC control arm from Marcas. Hope this helps. Feel free to pm me If I can help. I'm doing about the same build as you but with a SBC.

The more you spend the better it gets, that is IF you get the correct parts. I bought all sorts of parts and decided to change direction after years of stocking parts. The new suspensoin and brake set up should work great. See my post New wagon direction in this section for details.
