I bought a M21 in a package deal. I ran the numbers on the tag section and was told its from a 70 corvette. So does it make it a more desirable unit to a corvette guy? Im running 3.31's in the car and thinking the M20 is a better choice anyway. if so in a nothing looks broken, we pull the side cover to let someone inspect the guts. whats a good asking price? I figure a regular muncie seems to start at $350. jim

Not really worth any more being from a Corvette, might be a better selling point to a guy with a Corvette but for the most part no more money, 350 would be a deal on an M21, as long as nothing is broken it would probably sell fast at $500.

As a Corvette owner who is more than ready to get out of the Corvette part of the car hobby I disagree. The right Corvette Crazy will pay a premium for the transmission. Even if it is only the tag that certifies the trans as being from a Corvette. Many of those YoYos are soooooooo deep into the date and part numbers stuff that the dollar numbers get blured in their minds.

As noted in the other response the transmission is not really worth any more. That is because it is not any different from any other Muncie close ratio. That does not change the fact the true hard core Vette guy will perceive it to be something "special" because it was plucked out of a line of thousands of other Muncies and loaded into a Vette on the assy line.

If the trans was from a Mid Year Vette then you would possibly have hit the MOTHER LOAD. Those mid year owners are the nuttiest nuts in the jar of nuts.

I would find out every number on that thing and try to sell on a Vette board / Vette site. To the right guy it is worth more than you might think.

the ironic thing is, I mainly bought all the stuff for the hurst shifter. I had to go and buy a new one a couple years ago. I think I paid 375 plus tax or close to it. Im going to do a 4 speed swap next year in the elcamino and had to go buy a shifter anyway. I figured I could recoup what I paid for all this stuff pretty easy, I got all the pedal, linkage assy for a 68 up chevelle. with the reverse lockout, the muncie, a 444 bell housing, flywheel. Looks like I need to guy the frame bracket for the Z bar. get a new clutch kit and I have everything I need. I already have 2 M 20 muncies, so I dont need the M21, but I had to buy everything.
I mainly went to go buy a SS hood for my 68, ended up the guy gave me a deal because he didnt have the grilles for it. And I ended up selling my glass cowl hood for what I paid for the SS hood and hinges ($100!) jim

Jim, sounds like you got a super deal. I agree that if it has a corvette code you'll likely find a buyer but maybe not locally. You'll be better served advertising on a vette forum and be willing to ship. I've learned very quickly that the vette guys won't settle for anything less than exact as far as numbers go. If that shifter has a round bar make sure you run the part no. on that also.

The only thing Corvette about it would be the partial VIN stamp on the case, and it really doesn't make a difference as most of these guys want to restamp there VIN on a blank case.

Jerry, what part of the shifter has the round bar? I think its just a older model competetion plus shifter with the correct bend for a console chevelle car. jim

I'm no expert on identifying shifters but the shifter stick is either round or flat stock. If it is round it is a vintage shifter but if it's flat it's normally aftermarket. I believe some factory models still used a flat bar hurst stick, best to post the numbers on the tranny side of the shifter body and a good pic of the whole unit. I'm sure it'll be identified in no time.

OMAN is definitely right about this one. I sold a part that was interchangeable between Chevelles and Corvettes on e-bay and the Corvette buyers went nuts over it. They were ruthless but I sold it for a lot more than I thought it was worth!

If you want to make some money put it on ebay. I bought a CR T10 for a good price and put it on epay for 1300 with a 2000 BIN. Had a guy email me saying it was priced to high. My responce was I had some offers and alot of watchers. The next day he used the BIN for2000. I was in shock...

I used to rebuild a lot of Muncies back in the 70s. Most were for vette owners who didn't know how to drive (but they were cool in their matching jackets!). When I needed parts I went to the Pontiac dealer because for some reason the parts were cheaper there. One guy whose transmission needed rebuilding on a regular basis wanted to make sure I used genuine Corvette parts. I tried to explain that they were all Muncie parts and I could save him some money but he wouldn't hear of it!
