Good Morning,

I am finalizing the small details on a fresh dash install and cannot get my oil gauge to come up. With ig off it sits about 1/4 up the gauge.

With Ig hot it goes to extreme L .

I unscrewed the sender off the block and cleaned off the teflon tape and nothing changes. I also soldered a ground wire with a ring terminal to the bottom and grounded it to the valve cover. Still no movement.

When I switch the terminals on the back of the cluster It pegs to H. I am confident the gauge is good since it just left the speedometer shop.

What is left. I will try another sender of course. After that ????

Bought a new pressure sensor switch and still nothing. The gauge refused to move . When I remove the hot wire it sort of wants to move more to the revs of the engine . I am not sure if thats right.

Which one of your cars are you working on? Are the gauge and the sender matched to each other? The output of the sender has to be in the same range as the gauge to work accurately.

Are you using a pressure sensor or a pressure SWITCH?

Sensor produces a variable resistance to drive the needle of the gauge.

Switch provides digital (on/off) signal to power a light.

Use a switch to drive a gauge, and the needle has two positions--very low, and very high.

The senders I have been reccomended for the ss gauge are 60 psi with ;
1 ohm = Low
40-47 = Mid
80-88 = High

The one that did not work was a 60 PSI (SMP) so I got an 80 PSI with a 90 ohm High in there now. Still no luck with the 80, acting the same no different. I seem to get more movement on the gauge with the positive pink wire off the gauge entirely. I know the engine has oil pressure because we used a mechanical gauge for initail fire up.

Still stuck on low during ignition hot. With Ig off needle rests between low and Mid . Any further reccomendations appreciated.
