I have an AMD 64 X2 5600+ chip.
Which MB would you computer gurus get for this? ASUS, Gigabyte, & MSI seem to be the "chosen" good manufacturers so I'd like to stick with them. This will be for a gamer only. Full ATX, too.
I have 2 gigs of memory @ 800mhz. Can a board made for 1066 be used?
Any other tidbits of knowledge are appreciated!
Thanks,
Hugh

I have an Asus mortherboard with an AMD Athlom 64 x2 dual core chip same one as you have. The Asus board I have has a built in wireless card for the internet and supports 8gb of ram.

amd made 2 different chipsets for X2 processors. make sure you buy the board for the correct chip
Socket 939 and the AM2 chip. Also with regards to memory it sounds like you have DDR2 memory so you will need a board supporting the type of memory you have

I think I might go with this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128387
My chip is supported along with the memory I have and it can be upgraded to current AMD chips and also to 1333 memory in the future.
Its more than another I was looking at, but it seem more worthwhile in the long run.
I checked with this site to make sure it is compatible: http://ee.giga-byte.com/products/mb/cpulist/ga-ma790x-ud4p_10.html
Thanks for your input!:hurray:

I have almost the same MB. Mine does not have wireless, but otherwise identical. Has been running flawlessly for several years now. Great MB.
