Is there a break-in period for a rebuild of a Muncie trans where you would dump the old oil and refill with new as on a newly rebuilt engine? If so, how long/miles would you wait?
Thanks,
Rich

The builder of my M20 recommended changing the gear oil after the first 500 miles.

If you do a total rebuild of a Muncie, with ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL new gears, then yes, I would certainly recommend driving it CALMLY for a while to establish a little bit of a wear pattern (100 or so miles)------------IN EACH GEAR. Don't go 1-2-3-4 and then just keep it in 4th, spend some time in each gear under load as well as downshifting and coasting. For example, when coming to a stop, keep your foot OFF the brake pedal and downshift and decellerate in each gear until you get right up to the stop sign, THEN get on the brake pedal. After that, drive it like you stole it!

Now, if you do a rebuild on a Muncie and retain the same gears, just go drive it normal, or, even abuse it.

Thanks,
I replaced all the usual stuff, sychros, bearings, one worn slide collar, but used the same gears.

Put it in, drive it, nothing to worry about.
