I got the lock/latch removed and set back up thanks to some old posts here but for the life of me I can't get the stupid glove box door to latch closed. I have installed the striker in every orientation but can't seem to get it to work properly. I can get the latch to close part-way but not all the way. What am I missing?

At least you have a striker. My is busted off. Have velcro holding mine in. Yeah, the knob is also busted, so it would not latch to a stiker even if I had one.
Good luck. A few more tweeks her and there, and I am sure you will get it! If not, someone who has done it will give you the magic ticket
Take the whole mess out and look it over.
My 66 was finicky. The 66 strike is adjustable, and that seems to do it.
It may be possible to shim the latch up/down, etc. I also took the lock apart and removed the pins so it doesnt need a key.
Also make sure the key part is unlocked. If the key part is locked the latch won't open or move like it is supposed to. It seems possible to get stuff in the wrong position. Also, if the door is open and the latch is closed it wont latch closed.
It took a couple hours last summer to get it to work as well as it does.

At this point I'm thinking about velcro myself! I've had the striker out and oriented every way possible. I did try shimming the striker too. No luck. I generally have a decent amount of patience but I had to walk away from it before I decided to adjust it with a hammer. I'll get it eventually.

Check where the striker bolts onto the sheetmetal. On mine, the sheetmetal was pulled downward, putting it out of alignment. I straightened the sheetmetal by pushing upwards on the striker, and got it aligned so the lock closed.
