: Front disc brake splash shield necessary?

I am upgrading all my suspension and steering bushings with PST bushings, replacing my springs and replacing my stock front disc brakes with aWilwood cross drilled and sloted rotor big brake kit. The problem is that when I removed my control arms the bottom one caught on the disc brake splash shield and bent it all up. Do I need to get another set or am I all right without them? They are about $70 each and unless they are necessary I just don't see putting them back on. Thanks, Skip

If posible, straighten the bent one back to normal, if not I would recomend replacing it. these keep excessive water, dirt and rocks from scoring and reducing the effectivity of your brakes. I was amazed at the amount of road dirt that had built up on my a arms and general area when I lowered my chevelle this last weekend. I have worked on it for 5 years and it finaly hit the road last summer. dry days only, has less then 200 miles on it since done, I can only imagin the damage those little rocks can do if they get wedged in between a pad and rotor. just my two-cents...good luck!

My '94 Camaro 1LE car (no longer have) didn't have them. And I have seen plenty of cars with the shield and that traps pea gravel between the rotor and the shield so.... YES or NO to put them on is YOUR own choice. My current 12" rotor system doesn't have any shields.

Thanks for the input. I think I will leave them off for now. I can always add them back on. Trying to straighten my old ones would be futile and I would have to have them powder coated to look worth a darn. I'll keep an eye on the brakes and see if I get too many nicks etc. Skip
