I just came back from the junkyard, a few minutes of wrenching and 20 dollars later, I have a Trans Am sway bar. It is over an inch in diameter, i got it off of a 2nd Gen Trans Am. I was playing with my dial calipers and some spots measure close to 1.25 and some closer to 1.125, some in between. I'm trying to figure out what i have here so where is the proper place to measure the bar's OD?

Either way, for 20 bucks :D , this is much better than my 7/8 bar. :D

You measure it where the bushings sit. It would be 1.25, or 1 1/4" bar. You may want to check, it may not fit. I know this is true for the 3rd gen. 36 MM sway bars.

Yeah, 3rd Gens don't fit. But it seems like over the years a lot of guys here have fit the 1 1/8(28.5mm) and 1 1/4(31.5mm) 2nd Gen TA/Z28 bars on 68-72 non-lowered cars. I'm gonna go outside and check if it fits, it is a 1 1/8 bar.

Bolted it on with Energy Suspentions Poly bushings, fit pretty good, almost rubbing on one of the other suspensiong components (I think it was the idler arm, could've been a tie rod, I'll check again tomorrow. I also have to turn the steering wheel from stop to stop to make sure nothing binds. If it does, I'll grind a little with a die grinder. But it looks like I have 1/8-1/4 of an inch clearence.

I'll also add poly grommets to the end links tomorrow.

For about 45 bucks total (junkyard entrance fee, sway bar with warrantee (just in case), new poly bushings, new poly end link grommets), this should be a decent upgrade to the stock rebuild front suspension. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Thanks to everyone that has provided info about the TA/Z28 swap over the years.
