Posi or open diff? Open diff. in good condition, I wouldn't pay any more than $600. If it's a posi I would spend about $1000.

for an open spend less then 350.00, for a posi add 500.00.

Saw a 65 go for $2000 plus shipping, with a complete rebuild, pk brakes, ss Brake lines, clean and paint drums, new brakes, hardware, bearing $ seals, new posi and gears, with a re-paint.

A 68 with the same for $1400 plus shipping.

Are you guys talking about one that needs a complete rebuild?

I'm talking about one that is in excellent shape. A rearend that you would only want to maybe change the diff. lube in and bolt in, and go.

I sold a real nice one, no rust or pitting on the housing, 3.36 posi from an early 66. I got $1000 for it last month.

66 housings are a one year only; so is every year from 65 to 69 (different casting numbers and features). I think the 66s are less common than the other years. The numbers on them can make a difference in value if originality is important to your restoration. An empty housing can sell for $200 to $600. The posis are more valuable because of the cost adding a posi unit to a non posi rear end, but the housings are the same.
