: 66 Wheel Fitment
Francisco22 Nov 23rd, 09, 7:17 PM I have looked on the wheel database but havent seen anything with the sizing I want. I want to fit a 15x8 wheel with 2" BS on a 66 malibu with 2" lowering springs and stock rear/front end. Tire size I have, just want to know what size rim. Thanks.

72ragtop Nov 23rd, 09, 7:35 PM Going to have to narrow the rear end to fit a wheel with only 2" BS. Why 2"? 4.5" or 5" would work much better. Jim.
Francisco22 Nov 23rd, 09, 9:49 PM Yea I know,I just like the look better. These are the wheels I'm getting, just need to figure out what size and backspace i need.

15x8 aero wheels
4in backspacing
245-60-r15 in front
255-60-r15 in rear
the car has hotchkis lowering springs front and rear with 2in drop spindles in the front
cuisinartvette Nov 23rd, 09, 9:55 PM What size tires did you buy.....not sure a 2" backspace would work. Stock is 4 I believe, to get wider rubber you may have to increase that a bit.
Francisco22 Nov 23rd, 09, 10:16 PM Haven't got the tires yet. I'm going to tomorrow to measure everything and see what I can fit. But I wanted input from people who would know the car. The pic I posted above is from another guy asking the same thing, and the pic says its a 4 in bs and it looks how I want it to. So I think I'll probably go with that.
I wanted to do 255 60 15 rear and 225 front.
Also, the stock lug pattern is 4.75 right?
Thank for the help.

Chris R Nov 24th, 09, 9:53 PM I have 15X8s on the front and rear of my 66 and there is no way a 2 inch will fit back there. Mine are 4.5. It would be a lot easier and make more sense to get a different set of wheels that fit instead of modifying the car to make those wheels fit.
Francisco22 Nov 25th, 09, 12:28 PM Yea def. agree. Dont want to modify anything, just wanted to know what I could fit. I measured everything yesterday. Gonna fit a 15x7 with a 3" BS on the front and 15x8 4" BS on the back. Thanks again for the help.

cuisinartvette Nov 25th, 09, 1:54 PM Stock BS (4") with 255./60 will fit fine.
Francisco22 Dec 13th, 09, 2:19 AM Got my wheels and tires put on this week. Looks good, but the right front and rear rub a little. The front rubs on one of the wheel well bolts. Only when I turn left or hit a bump. Left side doesn't rub at all. Any suggestions. Will probably take off the wheel, see if the bolt can be removed without affecting anything, and try and hammer away. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

cuisinartvette Dec 13th, 09, 10:39 AM make sure your body is aligned properly and the rear rubbing should stop.
On the front try a button head allen bolt for the wheelwell. May not keep it from hitting but it wont hurt the tire. Best thing is to use slightly narrower rubber or raise the front up a touch.
Francisco22 Dec 13th, 09, 2:54 PM Forsure. Yea I figured my body might not be aligned if it was rubbing only on one side, and I will try the allen bolt. I didnt think the tire would be a problem because I got the same size tire on the front as I use to have before, a 215/60/15 and it didnt rub, but I didnt think about the different backspace on the wheel. It pushed it out a little bit more than before. Thanks for the help.
