I picked up a disc brake set up for my 64. all parts are new including the master cylinder. What I am wondering is, I got the master cylinder but no booster. can I just get a power boster that will work with my master cylinder? If so how do I find out which one to use? Also I got a poportioning valve with it but I was wondering if I should get a metering valve instead that will mount off the master cylinder? Thanks for any help on this.

I'm not sure on the master cyl. But if it for a later A-body with power disk brakes then a booster from one should fit your needs. On your prop valve metering block situation. What I did and many others have done is to use your stock line and metering block for the front brakes just put in a plug to where the rear line would go out of the metering block and then run the line from the stock metering block to the front of the master cylinder. Then run a short line with an adjustable prop valve in it to the rear brakes and dial it in to suit your tastes. You can get one reasonable from Jegs (http://www.jegs,com) or Summit Racing.

You could also try mounting the prop valve in place of the distribution block on the left frame rail. I found a bracket at the junk yard that I think will do it on my 64. Rob down in Huntington Beach found a source for brackets (new) when he did his 64. Don't know where he's been lately.

I have an adjustable poportioning valve that I got with the set up. the only thing im wondering about if I set it up with the adjustable valve, is will I have to use a residual check for the front lines? also still looking to see if a booster will work with the master cylinder That I have?
Thanks for the input and info

I,m in the middle of doing my son's 67 elky.We just went to autozone and bought everything for a 72.The booster and master as one unit was $90,calipers was about $30 each. Then I had the right stuff.com custom make me all new lines.I got the lines, rear hose,p-valve to master cylinder mounting bracket, and all the clips for $200. I went to the bone yard and got a p-valve.I was told it has to be off of a 71-72 a-body with discs, you might want to check a little more on what valves will work.I havn't finished the instulation yet, but I think the way the lines are made ,I don't use junction blocks at all, their's a jumper line that goes on the p-valve. You might want to give The Right Stuff a call. 614-895-9096 Hope this helps, good luck.

Sounds like a good way to go. Plan out the job, get all the "right stuff", and get rolling. The only thing I would have done differently is get the booster/MC combination for a 80 Firebird. The master cylinder is the same but the booster rod needs to be modified. These 8" duel diaphragm boosters work great and stopping is easier.
