So I have been hearing noises from down under, clicking sounds and what not. Experimented with the clutch pedal --> no results, Checked out the rods and the whole shifting unit --> looked fine... Im assuming the tranny has something wrong with it... fellow members said it may be a broken gear tooth or bearings... one member brought up the U Joints and well i took a look at the drive shaft and i just cant remember it looking this "out there".

It sticks out about and 1 1/2 inches from the transmission, i feel like its falling out almost, check out the picture, should there be this much of it exposed, i feel like it got "kicked" out and needs to be pushed back in lol.

The first is the original, second i added arrows and stuff in paint to make it easier to see...these were taken with a cell phone.

The green bars indicate the 1 1/2 inches from the transmission

Am I over analyzing this or is this normal??

You could take a look at the rearend mounting points to see if anything is broke or maybe a missing bolt. Anything that may let the rearend move back may cause the splines to pull out of the trans.

Sounds like a good idea I'll give it a look tomorrow in the day light. Any other ideas/input?

pic is hard to see, but looks like there is a shiny and dark part visible where the shaft is exposed at the tranny. The shiny would indicate where it seems at one time was in the tranny and the dark the long time exposed area. One of 2 things, either the motor moved forward or the rear back (possibly the yoke coming apart at the rear!?!?!?!?!) I know there is some that sticks out, this allows forward movement to remove shaft from rear yoke, not sure how much is acceptable though. Maybe the clicking you hear is a bad U-joint. If it makes you feel any better the shaft is splined as is the inside of the input shaft. Good Luck...........................B

What Buck said is about it. Either the engine moved forward or the axle moved back. Not saying there is a problem, but if there is that's the only two possibilites. I could look at mine later and see how far it sticks out of trans.

That yoke does slide back and forth on the transmission due to the rear end swinging through it's travel. I don't think that is your problem IMHO. You could pull the driveshaft and see how much of that yoke is still in the trans or if your at the end of it.

There should still be a good amount of that yolk in the trans.

There is another possibility,If you get on it alot, the splines inside the input get a twist to them.Whan it gets enough twist damage it will no longer slide completely into trans.BTDT.The twist is obvious when looking into input.
