I see there are a few different ones listed in the catalogs. White, black and chrome. 1/2", 5/16 & 3/8 inch thread.
My car is a 1966 with console. I'm converting from auto to M22 4 speed. Not sure on correct size and color though.
Thanks,
Bob

The correct one would be the chrome ball. I went out and looked at mine, I wasn't sure of the thread pitch, but I had a 1/2-13 bolt, and it slid in with no problem, the external threads of the bolt just touched the internal thread of the shifter ball, I took my thread gauge, and it measured 18 threads per inch on the shifter handle, so I can only assume the ball threads are 9/16-18
I noticed your site. I have a very good friend that lives in Overland Park Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City, who has a 1964 Impala SS, convertible, 409, 425hp dual quad 4 speed car. He has owned it since the car was new. It even came from the factory with 4:88's in it.
The car is all original, I mean truly a survivor. To preserve the original engine, he pulled it and bought one out of a 65 and put it in.
Did you happen to make it to the big 409 get together they had here in Kansas City, at Kansas City International Raceway a couple of years ago.

Thanks guys. One place does list the chrome one as 9/16 so that must be correct.
Rocky, you should have your friend sign up on my forum. It's all 348-409 talk there so he'd be right at home. I didn't go to the 348/409 meet but it was conceived on my site. The same bunch that was there are on my forum almost daily. lol

Bob,
4-speed cars with console get the Chrome ball. (Cars with consoles that have the shift pattern shown on the console get plain shift ball).
Bench seat or non-console 4-speed gets a shift ball with the pattern on the ball.

The shift pattern is on the console, so console = chrome ball
If no console it is a white ball with pattern.

My 66 is a "Non" Console car and it came with the Chrome Ball.

My 66 is a "Non" Console car and it came with the Chrome Ball.
Strange things did happen (shortages, line worker just grabbed the wrong ball, etc), but a non-console car was "Supposed' to come with the white ball with the shift pattern... IIRC, 3-speeds came with a black ball with no pattern...
I have seen a few bucket/no-console cars that came with "bench seat" handles, although the concensus here seems to be buckets received the same handle, console or not, and the bench handle was different...
