: Repop 69 ss grille paint
ktullos Nov 20th, 09, 6:57 PM I had to purchase a repop grille and it does not have the silver paint on the ridge edge like the original. Give me the info on the easiest way to paint this. My eyebrows are in need of paint so I will do them at the same time.
When I say "I", I mean my painter. I need your advise so I can talk to him with your Knowledge:yes:.

I did mine but it was original...
I taped off EVERY slat that wasnt suppose to be painted...took awhile but it turned out pretty good...
ktullos Dec 16th, 09, 10:36 PM OK, now I'm confused:confused:. Been looking around this site (should know better) and see conflicting pics of 1969 SS Grilles. Please tell me if the SS Grille is (A) all black includeing the eyebrows or should it have (B) the ridge top edges painted silver or (C) a combination of both, the center black and the eyebrows black with silver ridge edges like some cars in the pics have:sad:? Would like to get this right the first time.

wambams69ss396 Dec 16th, 09, 11:02 PM there people on this site with originals car and grills and some would say they came both ways depending on the plant where they were made.the all blacked out grill and eyebrow extensions only came on SS cars.the black with silver tips have been seen on both original SS and malibus cars.
i lost my original grill 20 years ago to a accident but that grill was ALL black with no silver tips. i still have my original extensions they to are all black.what i dont think looks correct is a black SS grill and extensions with silver tips.not do say a few weren't shipped that way.
Dean Dec 16th, 09, 11:12 PM What is an "eyebrow" on a 69?
ktullos Dec 16th, 09, 11:21 PM Sorry, Grille Extensions. Picked that term up from page 126 on Ground Up's catalouge "eyebrow moldings" as part of the GRILLEKIT-69 1969 SS.....kit 310.00..
Just a southern boy learning new things right or wrong.:o

ktullos Dec 17th, 09, 12:47 AM Ok, I see the extensions are listed for 69 Chevelle and do NOT say SS. Is this the clue? Looking at the pic from part # GRILLE-69 (must be all caps) in the catalouge they look all black on the extensions.
Where do the eyebrow moldings go?

f14tomcat Dec 17th, 09, 1:55 AM The grill extensions are for the Malibu or the SS cars, same piece, Malibu's were painted with silver on the leading edge and the SS was all black, this seems to be the consensus anyway...
The eyebrows (short pieces between the fender and the grill extensions) were for the SS cars.
The Malibu eyebrows were longer and extend from the top of the grill extension all the way down and across the bottom part of the front fender, part of the Malibu side molding option.
I hope this helps.

Thanks, I've always wondered where the term "eyebrow" came from on a 69 because to me it means above the eyes (headlights) and there are no eyebrows on a 69.
I would call those "sideburns" :D
SSsedan Dec 17th, 09, 12:18 PM The 69 SS I bought with 1,300 miles had an all black grille and extensions. It also had an extra chrome piece across the middle under the SS emblem. I bought a replacement from GM in the mid 80's that had the silver on the ridge tips and no holes for the middle chrome strip. All black is correct for a 69 SS 396.
ktullos Dec 17th, 09, 2:56 PM OK, Thanks ALL. I love this site! I'm sure I will have another question later.:beers:
