I just pulled mine, and there aren't any...though I see in the catalogs they offfer them. Is it done for some form of alignment issue? I don't trust the previous owner, he took too many shortcuts...do I need them?

When I installed my rear swaybar and aftermarket boxed control arms I did not need any shims. I believe the shims are if your bar doesn't fit snug against the lower control arms...in other words if you didn't use the shims the arms would bend "in" toward each other when you bolted the bar up to them...possibly messing up the up & down geometry of the lower control arms. Make sense?

When I removed the bar it was snug..so maybe not an issue?

This is a post I made some time ago.
My question:
The only use I can see for the shims is to align the center of the bar with the center of the Pumpkin.

No, it is so that when you tighten the bolts up , you dont draw the control arms in, binding the bushings. When you hold the bar up there if there is space add shimms. It does not need to be centered
