Several years ago I found a guy that had (2) NOS L88 torque converters about bought both. The correct part number (8625982) was stenciled onto them and both had a sticker stating, "Remanufacturered for GM" affixed to it.
I gave one to my dad to use behind the 455 HO in his '72 T/A and another to an aquaintance, who used it behind his 462 in his '68 Firebird. Both converters operated essentially identically. They were fairly tight and clearly stalled to about 2500 in both applications.
Our freind ran his at the drag-strip a few times and found he needed more stall, so he pulled it out after a handful of runs and gave it back. It's been sitting in my basement for a couple of years and because it's in excellent re-usable condition, I planned to keep it for a future project. I now realize that may never happen and have been thinking of selling it.
So what is a slightly-used, original L88 torque converter in otherwise excellent condition worth?
The remnants of the stenciled part number is still visible and it's a genuine GM L88 unit. I can email pictures if anyone needs visual verification.
