Hello Everyone,

I'm wanting to verify that the transmission in the car is the same one it had when it rolled out of the factory. The car is a 72 Chevelle (L65) and was born with an M20 4 speed according to the build sheet. I have not had any luck finding the trans vin, but located the following:

Main Case Casting: 3925656; 0282; GM12
Extension Housing Casting: 326558; GM55
Front Bearing Retainer Casting: 3899621
Driver's Side Below Linkage: R2E11

A number here or there could be incorrect given the grime. If someone could point me to the vin location I'll see if I can track it down. Thanks in advance for the assistance.

David

It may be on top of the trans, it may be on the side... Looks like it's a Saginaw 4 speed.

Thanks Dave. Well so far so good. From what I've read, the Saginaw was the transmission put into the low powered vehicles and the L65 fits the bill. I guess I may have to wait until I pull the transmission to verify that the trans vin matches.
