I'm looking for one for my 1970 radio delete Chevelle, can you post a picture so I know what I'm looking for?

The only info I have is that it's NOT called a 'radio delete' plate....it's called a radio block-off plate. You couldn't 'delete' the radio, because it was optional at extra cost.

I was just given a 70 Malibu that had the radio block off plate. The guy who ordered it new was deaf so no need for a radio. The guy who gave me the car kept the dash but I'll ask if he has it. If he does I'll get some pics and a part number.

AM radio was standard with SS option!

There were 2 different radio block-off plates 70-72. The sweep dash got a smooth face plate, the SS got the Madrid grain.

Chris, check out this link. This guy makes both smooth and Madrid grain. I have been told his plates are very nice.

I think you might want to recheck your source of that information.

I am looking at the build sheet for my car and it doesn't reference anything about a radio on my 1970 SS so I am assuming that it didn't come with a radio. I have seen other SS build sheets and an order code is listed if so equipped....I agree with Bill

Well I took a look at my build sheets. I have a 70 & 71. Both have U63 AM radio listed. When I bought the 71 from the original owner I asked him why he didn't get an am/fm since it was a nicely equipted SS454. He told me he didn't want a radio but it came with it. It was a customer order so I took his word for it. Later I aquired the 70 SS454 and it also has U63 am radio listed on the build sheet. This is the single dash speaker type. No speakers ever in the rear deck. This too is a customer order car. Unfortunately I have never been able to locate the original owner on that one, I'm the third. Both are SS454 cars. The 70 was bought and raced. It is a little more sparce on the options, but that seems understandable due to the intent of the original purchase. Seems odd that both vehicles have AM radios when the original 71 owner didn't want it and it would not seem reasonable that the original 70 owner would pay extra for a radio in a car bought to race. Since both cars do list U63 in the bottom of the build sheets, I guess they were optional. Still seems strange to me that these people bought them. Along this line I also had a 72 similarly equiped which I bought from the orginal owner but it was only an SS with the 402 and it too had only an AM radio. That was long ago and I sold that car and I never bothered to look for a build sheet. By that time I assumed the AM was standard. I guess I stand corrected.

My Gold 72 was ordered with an antenna but no radio, even with air the car has a mono (center) speaker dash pad.

My brown 72 was ordered with an AM radio, it has the 2 speaker dash pad.

Yes, they are also called block off plates but I follow the crowd, as there are usually around 150 different "delete plate" listings on eBay...been casting over 60 different ones for quite a few years and they sell way better when I list as
"radio delete plate"

My Baltimore built 70 LS6 has the AM radio with single front speaker which is listed on the GM of Canada docs. This is a low option car that didn't even get power steering.

The Chevelle SS dash radio block off plate for a 70 to 72 is made of stamped metal . My SS convertible still has its original in place it has been photographed by many including Chuck Hanson . Very Very Rare I have only ever seen 1 other in a car and that was a No mile LS6 convertible. I will get a picture up shortly !!!
Also the build sheet will not show a radio and the block on the build sheet showing speaker will have --.
