View Full Version : Mass Flo EFI

I built my first engine about 4 years ago and never did get it running correctly. I have been fighting to get my car right but through hurricane Katrina, being deployed to Iraq and having a new born I have had limited time with my car. My engine would always stumble when I gunned it but it will rev up just fine while in park. I changed over from an edelbrock 650 to a Holley SA 670 and it seemed to help it out. The engine no longer tries to die on me but it still stumbles. I think my ignition was a little off so I brought my distributor in to a shop and had them set the curve for me. I also think my hold down clamp was allowing my distributor to slip. I changed the clamp but due to my luck my new hood on my old hood hindge has now bent and I need another new hood so I can't test drive my car right now.

My point to my rambling is that I would love to switch over to an LS series engine but due to both bad luck and finances I can't. So, I was thinking of converting to EFI to eliminate the carb problems. I have been eyeing up the Mass-Flo EFI system but haven't seen anyone in here using it. It seems to be a good simple system. Does anyone know of this system and if so would you recommend it or another system?

Personally it sounds to me like I'd spend a lot more time getting your ignition and carb worked out.
A 670 street avenger is a good carb and should work well as well.

What Doug said.

You should have 16-18 initial timing with another 16 or 18 mechanical advance. On top of that is 10 or 15 vacuum advance. Is that what you have now? Get the ignition stuff working right and the carb will probably make a miraculous recovery. Don't fiddle with the carb until the timing is right.

Wow, $3000, thought you were poor?

You could have one of the nice Holley systems for that.

Or darn near do an LSx transplant...

I would spend the time working out your timing and carb setup before I looked at buying an EFI kit. If you do decide to pick up an EFI kit like the Mass-Flo, I would pick up the FAST EZ-EFI instead of the Mass-Flo. At $2250, its cheaper than most other kits, and you get the proven FAST name. thats just my 2cents.

Thanks guys! I will try to adjust the timing ONE more time. I don't have vacuum advance but i will use the recommendations posted here. I know the mass-flo system is a pricey but I thought it would be cheaper than a ls transplant. They make the system sound good but I will take another look at the systems mentioned above if I get to the point of putting a well placed grenade in the intake manifold! Thanks again!

I could make many comments pro's and cons of all the systems mentioned, but give your good old carb a try.

Like Tom said, engines like initial timing...

Your potential learning and installation issues with EFI to me would be much more than optimizing what you have now.

This right here is why I ask Doug anything I need to know about EFI and what not. He is honest even if he knows it wont sell his EFI products.
THanks Doug
