i am currently putting c4 front and 95 f-body rear discs on my 71. I have been using an article found on pro touring to do this swap but it uses stock spindles. I have been hearing so much about tall spindles i am starting to think about using these has anyone put c4 brakes on a b body spindle i dont want to use the cast iron calipers that are stock. Or another option is to maybe use a ball joint spacer, i have seen lots of drag cars use these. Any help is appreciated.

Well, you might want to do a search on the pro's and con's of the tall spindles before you forge ahead in that department. There are parts that need machining and other parts to procure from different vehicles to make the swap possible.

As for swapping on the C4 components, its not as easy as you might expect, but it can be done with patience (and can be done cheap with patience as well...you just have to be on the look out for deals!).

From what I've seen and read C4 components are being swapped out in favor of C5 components thus you might want to post for calipers and rotors over at www.corvetteforum.com (http://www.corvetteforum.com) in the wanted section (hopefully to find a deal on some parts).

As you have probably found out by now, David Pozzi's website has brackets for the swap with the stock spindle.

Good luck with the swap.

Here are a few pics of a b body spindle modified to use a C4 caliper. These were modified my Baer, but as you can see its nothing fancy. Any competent fabricator can duplicate it.

Sorry for getting into this discussion late,Andrew, but is it possible to modify a stock disc-brake A-body spindle for C4 brakes?

Yes, do a search for David Pozzi's website to see how to make the bracket.

One question for k, why don't you want to use the stock iron calipers? These actually provide more brake force and help stop better than the newer PBR style calipers. Without going into a long dissertation about fluid mechanics and such, the larger, single pistons will provide more force than the smaller pistons on the PBR style calipers given the same amount of pedal pressure. Now of course, you can push the pedal harder if you want to stop the same, but most people don't like doing that. Now, I'm not saying that the PBR style calipers don't work, so don't get in a fuss, but what I am saying is that they take more pressure to provide the same braking force as the stock calipers! So just make sure your whole system is matched so you get what you want!

Good luck,
Bill C.
