New to board, I bought my son (141/2) a 71 malibu last year. Converting it from manual drums to front disc`s from a 72 cutlass,I got everything off the donor car even the lower distribution valve on the frame.gettin ready to install is there anything to do or look for. I`ve got new rotor`s calipers, pad`s etc. I`ve caught plenty of mech. experience,Just wanna do this smoothly with no surprise`s. Car has 59,000 an change 307 2bbl. already added dual exhaust. It will be a daily driver for him in about a year an a 1/2. Were gonna freshin the motor with cam (stock) Timing chain an gear an new valve spring`s, Just to bring it back alittle to new, Car has very! little rust. also repacing front coil spring`s with stock new one`s. My theory is the chassis coils an valve spring`s are alittle tired from bein compressed the last 32 year`s? I`ll add a rear sway bar an coil`s next! Any help or suggestion`s welcome. Jeff

At the bottom corner of the page use the "hop to" and scroll to disc brake conversions. All the info is there.

welcome aboard, sounds like you are on the right track. my only suggestion would be to make sure your son turns the wrenches so he learns and apreciates the heavenly creation bestowed upon him, a "CHEVELLE" graemlins/thumbsup.gif

The one thing you may have missed is the frame bracket located where the hard line (from master cylinder) mates with the flexible line to the caliper. The shape of the opening is different between disc & drum lines and the appropriate bracket. If the car is still available go back for this small part. Thank`s Guy`s, I did get the hose bracket`s with the other stuff,But the proportioning valve on the frames are different in how they appear to mount, Does anyone make a new one? also no metering valve just below the M/C, the 72 cutlass didnt have it which I probably dont need anyway,My son is working with me on any project on the car, And 99% of all money spent on it so far has been earned by him doing stuff for other people! He asked for a 70`s chevelle or camaro and I found this 1 for $1,300. Hes stay`s on the honor roll so I couldnt say no! We have a long driveway an he sometime`s picks his sister up at the bus stop with it! Jeff

71 & 2 don't have a metering valve, all controlled in the proportioning valve. There is a GM replacement proportioning valve available, but it is brass and looks nothing like the original.
