: Carburetor date code
KY69SS396 Nov 16th, 09, 10:57 AM I have a Carter-made quadrajet date coded G9 (July 9). The carburetor number is 7090202, indicating use for a 1969 model. However, is there any way to tell if it was installed on a very early 1969, or a very late 1969?

Don_Lightfoot Nov 16th, 09, 11:35 AM Great question Jeff. Don't know if this will help, but the earliest produced 69 I have seen is the second week of July, 1968.
RixLS6 Nov 16th, 09, 12:06 PM I think it would have to be for a July of`69 car, which probably means it originally would have been on a Camaro as that was the year that the 69 model year production ran into November 1969
Dave Birdwell Nov 16th, 09, 7:07 PM Yes, the carb dated G9 would be made in 69, it would be G8 to be early 69 production. Rick is probably right, it's probably a 69 Camaro carb. Don't know if they used this carb on the 69 427/390 Vette engine, the 69 Vette ran into fall production too....

Doesn't the datecode G9 mean July 9th, and the 7029202 indicate a 1969 model year application? Wouldn't a G8 just indicate a one day earlier production?
RixLS6 Nov 17th, 09, 11:24 AM G 9 means July 1969, whereas G 8 means July 1968.
Ark68SS Nov 17th, 09, 3:29 PM I don't know much about '69's, but I found this info in "Chevrolet by the Numbers"
70=prefix code
2=Decade produced-1960's production
9=Year produced-1969
2=Model-Quadrajet Carburetor (4bbl)Federal standards
0=Division-Chevrolet
2=Transmission-even numbers are automatic trans applications
DH=Customer or broadcast code
This book shows the 7029202 used on 350 CID, 255 & 300HP passenger, Chevelle, Camaro, and Chevy II and 300HP Corvette with auto trans.

1969396 Nov 17th, 09, 3:35 PM My 1969 chevelle ss has the original 7029200 and it don't have a date on it just EE is this common.

EE would be the code on the buildsheet for the carb. I've seen carbs that were not dated.
KY69SS396 Nov 17th, 09, 11:07 PM G 9 means July 1969, whereas G 8 means July 1968.
So, do all quadrajets made by Carter carry a date code indicating only the month and year, whereas those made by Rochester use the 4 number date coding that translates to a specific day of a year?
Redmanf1 Nov 18th, 09, 1:43 AM The rochester is Julian dated but not the carter
