There was an aticle in the July issue of Chevy High Performance about this coversion package from Master Power Brakes. Sounds and looks like an easy upgrade. Has anyone done this or used this particular kit? Interested in input before I decide to buy.

Here's link to the website info.

You could do it yourself for half that cost. I looked at that kit for myself but couldn't cough up that much for drums. I instead went to a junkyard and picked up the 11" backing plates from a 1977 El Camino. Monte Carlos, Wagons, and El Caminos are good donors. I bought everything else new from the part store (Kragen in my case). Probably cost me $200 total tops. I just put the brakes together the other day. I still have to test drive them to find out if they work. ;) Anyway, my suggestion is if you want to save money, just get the backing plates and work from there. Just beware of Impalas (different bolt pattern for backing plates--ask me how I know graemlins/clonk.gif ). Good luck!

Search for username "BC". He's done the swap before.

you can actually buy new backing plates from a parts store, as well as all the other parts, if you'd rather not go crawling under cars in the boneyard (which, for me, is 90% of the fun of this "hobby"). i bet you'd get everything locally for half the price of the kit. the drums and backing plates would be the big $$$ items, altho i honestly really don't know how much a new backing plate costs.

I have this kit on my '65. Was a very easy install with NO problems mounting them. Though I have yet to actually try it as the car is still up on jackstands while I plumb in my Hydroboost unit and re attach all my accessories and radiator.

Thanks for the input, guys. So....I can buy all the parts from the local parts store (including backing plates) or go the kit route. Just curious if '77 was the only or best year to order. Anyone know?

Supposedly the kit includes super duper shoes, larger wheel cylinders and a pressure tester. Is that correct harleighguy?

why would you do that when you can just put rear disc on? it is easier to change pads then it is shoes :D
