What vehicles/years were they installed? How do I tell the differance between the "Slow" ratio (which I currently have) and the quick ratio??

Ya know, I just read that other post with the power steering question,. They mentioned 2 different ratios for manual steering, I thought there was only one. Does anybody know if there was only one manual box?

I have never seen one in an A-body but I do know that 67-69 Z-28's came standard with a quick ratio manual box. The GM P/N for 67-68 is 5699471 and 69 is 7806396. All you have to do is find one of these boxes, remove the camaro pitman arm and install the Chevelle manual box pitman arm and voila, quick ratio manual steering!

Jimmie, I don't know if this is exactly what your looking for , but I just put a faster ratio box on a 67 elky. I went from a 3 3/4 lock to lock, to a 2 3/4 lock to lock. I just went to Advanced auto and ordered a rebuilt one for a 72 elky. The price was $159.

I have quick ratio manual steering on the 67. I think it came on early Z/28s. As the other post mentions, you need a different pitman arm to make it work and a nifty little splined coupler.

You also need fore arms like Popeye. That thing is near impossible to park.

In the year of the motor head 1955 GM created the small block and it was good. A decade later Flint brought forth the true rats, and it was good. In 1970 they screwed the pooch with the 454. I guess two out of three ain't bad!

Finding one is going to be like pulling teeth. A good place to start would be on the Camaro Research Group web page or TC sister web site Camaros.net

Call Lee Manufacturing they can take a 63-82 corvette 16:1 (memory?) ratio worm gear and adapt it to the chevelle box. Orig was like 21:1. Not a cheep job as the parts from GM are premium. It is not easy to park. Takes real big arms to turn.
