Hey all . . . just found/ joined your site. Understanding the give and take of these sites. . . . I hate to say, my first post is to ask for some info. We (my son & I) really hope to join in on the sites fun soon, but first, some info if you would be so kind.

I'll start with some info about us: I'm a new classic muscle car enthusiast. (Yeah, I'm a girl) My major area of "expertise," if you will, is the Ford Mustang particularly anything in the '60s. And I am a member of Stangnet.com. I'm still learning there too but I have a good eye especially for body styles, years, body details and some re the workings under the hood, but still learning in that area. I do have a really good eye. But again still just learning. My teenage son is quite the young enthusiast and I'm proud of his interest. Sooooo . . . on with it . . .

My son recently found a California '68- 4 door Chevelle Malibu for sale. I've checked out his initial research (which at the moment is minimal, he just found the advert) and done some of my own. I will admit, I know very little about the Chevelle. I'm seeing a few inconsistencies in the the car from the posted pics. The biggest one is the B-line (??). (The bar 'tween the front and back windows. Rite??) I can't find a pic of even one car of this generation with one. Also, the slope or lack thereof, of the C-line. I'm sure there are sites with more info but I can't find any w/ pics like this car. There's a bit more info included in the advert but all of that "fits". I'm sure my concerns are more from my lack of knowledge than anything else. I just don't want my ignorance to cause me to get ripped off.

Is there anyone out there that can help or at least face me in the in rite direction as to where to find it??? If this car works out I'm hoping we can do some extracurricular work on it. But at the moment he needs a working vehicle. The deal is really good and we'd like to move on it in the next day or sooner. it's a super deal . . . there is some body damage -- rite rear taillite and front driver side headlite, including the grille. From the picture it looks like there may also be some damage to the quarter panels too that will need special examination but other than that . . . . he may have just walked into a doosie of a deal!!!

Some of the other things that stuck out, I've reconciled in my initial research . . . but the body just looks "wrong." I could be totally off. I don't know much about this type of car. To be honest, we've not actually seen the car in person. HELP anyone?? Thanks all, looking forward to participating more!!!!

Welcome to the site..

I think the car you are looking for is here.. http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/showphoto.php/photo/16892/cat/505

Also, you may want to check the classified section for cars for sale by members.. You may find something in a similar price range, if he is "looking".. Although if it seems like a mechanically sound car, and it is the right price, he my jump on that one!

Good Luck!

I'll toss the direct link in too..

Welcome to Team Chevelle.

The absence of a B pillar was an option, and made the car a sports sedan. A car with a B pillar is called a "post" car or plain sedan. Both 2 doors and 4 doors were available with or without the B pillar or post. A 2 door with the pillar is called a post coupe, and without is called a sport coupe, or 2 door hard top.

Glad to have you guys here, and it is an inspiration to see a mother/son team going after a good old piece of American iron.

See you on the boards. :D:thumbsup:

One thing I would suggest is to check the condition of 4-door specific parts. Parts like the doors and the interior pieces are really key on 4-door cars because they are HARD to find:yes: If they are repairable or in good condition, it will make the project alot more affordable and less stressful!

Man, first of all . . . the cars I'm seeing on this site are just spectacular!!!! I'm a little intimidated . . .. so a quick question re replacement parts that are specific to the 4-doors, would that include the rear and front quarter panels as well? Or are they easier to replace/ fix? I get the doors . . . but if I can replace those parts inexpensively I'd rather do that. We are making plans to look at it tonite. Wish me luck . . . also I did see there is a section on the here specific to wagons and 4 doors, so we'll be checking in there too!!! Thanks again for all of your help gents . . .guess what we've been talking about all day??!! ;)

Front fenders, grille, hood, dash, drive line, will all be the same on any model of the same year. Doors and related interior parts will be different as will the rear quarter panels. Bumpers are the same. Problem is that many of the after market vendors don't do much with four door models and you may have to search a bit more for some 4-door specific items if you need them. I would hesitate to get involved with a 4-door that needed a lot in that regard. If the car is nice and the 4-door specific stuff is good then go for it! Keep in mind that 4-doors have limited market appeal as compared to coupes and converts so the purchase price had best be good as re-sale in the future will follow the same way. The biggest problem is that you can spend just as much restoring or repairing a 4-door but with far less return on your investment at resale time. If you go ahead with this purchase, get yourself some catalogs from vendors such as Original Parts Group, Ground-Up, Bob's Chevelles, Ausleys, or others (most are free). These vendors can help you with just about anything Chevelle. Also, learn your way around this site....it's been a life saver for many of us. Good luck.

Lacey, being a 4-door owner myself I can say just about every part you would need for a 4 door can be found in many of the same places that people here order their 2 door parts from. There are plenty of companies that have '4-door' sections for parts, so there isn't much difference except the 2 extra doors. Some of them are a little more expensive, some are cheaper, just depends on the part. If you do have a question about anything...you've already found the place to ask :)
