Trying to get a ballpark value on a mid 80's 454 I have. It is partially disassembled, (short block is still together) and real greasy/dirty. It turns free. Mileage is unknown. I'm just looking for a ballpark figure on it, and would it be worth it to completely disassemble it and have it hot tanked/checked before trying to sell it? I am only selling it because I decided to go with a 6.0l. Thanks!

125-200 bucks. You see them advertised for more, but around here, its doubtful they actually sell for more because they pop up for sale again in a month. jim

you see big blocks advertised for 400 bucks and up. most come back up for sale, Last 454 I was going to look at the guy wanted 250 for it. I couldnt look at it for awhile and it sold. The 454 in my elcamino I found on craigslist for 200 bucks. The one in the chevelle was 75 bucks for a 40 over shortblock. My other spare 454 was $125 and the other spare block, rods, crank was $75 but all I really wanted was the brackets and pulleys. Deals are out there, just have to keep a eye out and have cash ready when a seller is thinking of cleaning out the garage. jim

Sounds like some really good deals available in your area. A good 454 shortblock seems to go for 250 to 300 or so around here. Sometimes more, depending on date and condition. They seem to want 350 to 500 for a complete 454.

As Texas is truck country they are a dime a dozen. A friend of mine hauls a lot of scrap cars and sees lots of them. Top end on a pull out is about $400 but if I was looking for one I bet I could have one in less than 30 days for $200 or less. Complete.
