The odometer does not move but the speedo seems to work fine on my 69 chevelle. I thought they work together ? Any ideas on what to look at ?
I have the factory tack and gages. I would also like to roll my odometer back to 00000, as I just completed a rebuild of the engine and trans. How hard is that ?:beers:

If you plan on rolling the miles back you will probably see where your problem is. To do this you are going to have to dis-assemble the speedometer, then you will see how everything works, it's pretty straight forward. The odometer works off a set of gears powered by the speedo cable. You are correct they do work together. More than likely the gears have worn to the point where your odometer isn't turning.
As far as how hard it is...just time consuming , removing the gauge cluster asm. to get to the speedometer is the hardest part. You willl have to remove the gauge from the cluster housing, then take the gauge apart to get to the gears. Just do it in an area that is clean and organized...some small parts that are easy to lose. If the gears are the problem I'm not sure if they are reproduced, you will have to find a another gauge for parts.
Just a side note: If you do decide to take your gauges apart and want to clean the faces off to remove the dust... don't use any type of liquid, it will smear the letters. Just use a small fine hair artist paintbrush and blown air.

There are plenty of places on the internet that you can send it off and get it repaired. They also offer screen printing to repair any of the blemishes in the face of the speedometer. I sent all of my guages including my tach, they recalibrated, repaired all of them.

Mine was doing the same so I took it apart to investigate. I found a stripped/worn out gear. Had a spare trashed speedo, took it apart and the gear was good in it so I swapped them. Works fine now.
