Hey guys...
Has anyone done a rear disc conversion on these 12 bolt rear ends?
I bought a 12 bolt 67' 3.55 posi rear end for use in a chevy truck project and was wondering if there were some options available for converting to rear disc brakes?
Is it a shame to use this rear in a non-chevelle? I'm going to have to cut all the brackets off it. Would it be better to sell this rear and build another? Is this a desireable rear end for the chevelle guys?
Thanks!

Looks like I may have found some answers:

Lots of good info on this website! Thanks!

Yes, it is a shame. The '65-67 chevelle 12-bolts are very hard to find and worth 400-600 bucks easily. You can find '65-70 impala 12-bolts for about $100, and '68-72 chevelle 12-bolts for $250-300.
That one, having a posi and 3.55 gears is probably worth $1000 and '67 rears are a 1-year only.
Definitely don't cut that one up!!!

I can't tell if it came out of a Chevelle or El Camino. It measures 61" drum to drum.
Is there anyway to tell for sure? Or are they just the same? The code is KF 0129B
Wow! For that kind of money, I'd just as soon part with it and build a new rear end for the truck.

rears were the same in chevelles and el caminos. If it's a chevy 12-bolt from a '67 a-body, it's worth good money.
Buick/Olds/Pontiac rears are different and some even had 12 bolts holding on the cover and 10-bolt internals.
I'll measure one of mine when I get home. smile.gif

Just found out through the numbers on the center section that the rear is actually out of a 69' Chevelle. Not what I thought it was. Still a posi though. The axle code says it is a 3:55 but it has 3:31 in it now.
Thanks for your help.

It's still a pretty valuable rear to cut up, probably $600-700 with good gears and a posi. The '68-72 rears are an inch wider than the '64-67s.
I would try to find a 69-70 impala 12-bolt rear. You can find them all day long for under $100. (with 3.08-ish gears and no posi) It may be a bit wider, but bracket-wise it would be the same ammount of work.
