I'm getting my '66 olds 10-bolt rear ready to put in my '69. I have ALL of the parts required to convert to discs.
Upon assembly, I ran into a problem with my brackets causing a large space between the retainer and the bearing. This causes about a 3/8" gap that the axle could come out, only to be kept in by my outer brake pads.

I can't put the bracket on the outside of the retainer, because I'm already very tight for space between the inner pad and the rotor.
Any ideas?

Can you make some sort of spacer to go between the bearing and the retainer? Could be hard to do though....hard to tell from the pic

I've never done one of these swaps but shouldn't that bracket go on the other side of the rear flange?

Maybe I'll have to open it up some to make it fit??? The bracket was definitely made for a C-clip axle :(

..... and at the flange on a C clip axle the tube actually necks down.

What I did on my non c-clip axle when converting was to create a spacer out of a pair of old drum backing plates. I just traced out the flange on the backing plate and cut them out. I then put the home made spacer on, then the bearing retainer then the caliper mounting bracket.
I had to machine down my caliper brackets (93-97 camaro rears) so that they would fit properly after being spaced out. Yep, the non C-clip is a PITA when doing a rear conversion.
Actually your best bet would be to get one of these made up, its a custom bearing retainer. it would fit on the outside of the caliper bracket and hold the bearing in place.

Problem Solved! Thanks guys!
I mounted the brackets inboard of the flange, and cut the old backing plates up to get the correct spacing for the retainers.
Should be in the car this week (I hope!)

I have a c-clip 10 bolt with disc conversion and my bracket is on the inside of the flange.
