One of the exciting cool products we ran across at SEMA this year was these John Covan's Thunder Road Dashes. John Covan founded the original Covans Classics now sold under the name Classic Dash. John Covan's Thunder Road is a new company and he has made some great improvements in his new designs.

Not only do they look better, but they fit better, are thicker material, and come with steering column closeouts. I really liked the new layouts. I also like the finish on the panels, the black panels no longer have the oily look finish, the carbon fiber, while still not real, looks a lot better, and the brushed finish is a huge improvement. I liked everything so much we signed up and became a distributor.

We can sell the panels blank, or blank and also include a full set of gauges separately. Blank panels are $149 to $279. Because we are Autometer and American Autowire distributors, we can offer gauge and harness packages that make these a smokin bargain when we load them with gauge packages. Gauge packages start at $360 for full set of mechanical gauges, $600 for full set of Electrical gauges and harness. We will have all these up on the new online store very soon, in the meantime you can call and we can spec out your dash on the phone.

Do we still need a top dash pad with these? If so, what do those look like?

I am interested. I keep meaning to call, but have so much to talk about. I need a lot of stuff.... :)

I have one of the old ones, and will agree that the new looks much better.

Too bad I have a crappy fitting repro dash pad sitting on top of it!

I would love some close-ups of these. Better yet, to be able to hold one in my hand to judge the quality, weight and rigidity of it would tell me a lot more. :D

Do we get any disounts for being a team chevelle member? Just asking. Does the 65 dash have enough room under the gauges to fit a aftermarket radio?

Looks like enough to me as well but it`s hard to tell in the pics. I might actually be able to buy one of these next week. The radio thing isn`t a deal breaker but I was just wondering.

That blank spot is for a single din (rectagular) radio.

As for discount. We are not allowed to discount the complete dash kits. But we can sell you the blank dash with holes and supply the gauges seperate. Then we can discount the gauges since we are a Autometer distributor, and net you a savings. To be perfectly honest, the fancier the gauges, the better the discount.

Best thing to do is email me and let me know what gauges you like and let me put a quote together for you.

Frank, I actually only need the blank dash for 5" speedo and tach. I`m trying to piece it together as cheap as possible. I`ve got some of the gauges already lined up. Where do I email you at?

I'm on the cusp of modifying my dash... however, I might wait for the Thunder Road '66/'67 -- hopefully it looks great, which means I can spend my time fabricating elsewhere on the car.

Bring on the pictures!

Good news guys, I just talked to John Covan and I will have pictures of the new 66-67 chevelle dashes by Monday. There are a small supply coming in on this first batch and I have secured 5 black (of which two are already sold) and two carbon fiber. It will be four weeks before more inventory will be in. The price for the blank dash will be $279 and of course you can load it with your favorite Autmeter gauges.

I got my Covan's thunder road dash insert today. I got everything mocked up, but I still need to cut the original to make the insert fit. I wish Covan's would have given some direction in the cutting process! I'm kind of weary as I don't want to cut anything I might need.

It is the carbon insert with ultra-lite gauges. All mechanical except for the Speedo.

Thanks Frank. Great service all around. Would you happen to know if Covans has a cutting diagram for these inserts. It kind of looks like i only need to cut certain pieces out just to slip the insert right over the top of the stock dash.

Hey Frank, I looked on autometer's website, and found nothing specifically for my gauge. I did look on summit and I found an aftermarket cable by Lokar.

Let me know what you think. Also since I have to purchase a speedo cable, would it be better to just return the mechanical speedo and go electrical?

I'm considering one for my 68... One thing I'm noticing is the cigarette lighter hole is not in the photo, not that I use the cigarette lighter but I do use it to charge my cellphone...

I see people with the 70 and later have to cut their dash, is this the same with the 68 or does it just cover where my stock one came out of?

Torn between the black or the brushed aluminum look, how does the brushed aluminum look in person? Does it actually look like brushed aluminum and is the coating going to stand up to time?

There is not a cigar lighter hole but you could put one in. Cigar lighters just sandwich the panel. Be pretty easy.

As for the look of aluminum...................To be honest, I am not a fan of any of the faux finishes. Make mine basic black please.

If your looking at buying it loaded, we have a hell of a sale on gauges including a rebate that could save you some real money right now.

I wired a double cigar lighter socket into the glovebox, much neater than having cords hanging out the dash!

Holidays are over... Car is up in the air so I can get some work done between now and April and on my list is some interior work...

I have a nice original 68 AC dash in my car with a radio delete plate covering an unmolested radio hole and I'd like to keep it that way.

So... I'm really considering ordering one of these dashes with a full compliment of gauges, sending units and whatever else I need to make it work and put my original dash and gauges in storage.

Plain black... Undecided on gauges... I have an AC car and I'm using the stock factory center vent. Do they come with the provisions molded in for the 68 AC vent?

I assume I need to cut it out to install a single DIN radio? Although I love the sound of the exhaust, I do like music now and then...
