Just wondering what experiences some of you have had swapping a tilt column into a early chevelle. Iwant to keep the floor shift and I am putting a 700R4 into the car. Has anyone found a later column that would work and has the over drive detents, without a ignition on the column? How about a 67 tilt column with the collapsable shaft, do those fit?

What about the shift detents for a 700R4. I have seen one guy who actually modified his original style column and made more detents. I think that is a little beyond my skill or time commitment. Any ideas on making the R4 work with the proper number of detents?

Sorry I wrote floor shift on the first post, I meant column shift. What about the shift detents for a 700R4. I have seen one guy who actually modified his original style column and made more detents. It's easy, if you still have the original floor shifter, you can get these aftermarket conversion kits that has a detent plate to change out the powerglide ones to either a TH350/700R4 from Original Parts Group(OPG):
