: Strange feeling brakes

My friend asked me to drive his Camaro and tell him what I thought about the brakes (manual drums). He just changed his pads and it improved the feel from what it was (he said you could push the pedal almost to the floor then the brakes came on and fully actuated within an inch or so of travel). Now, I pushed the pedal about 2-3 inches then started feeling some resistance but that resistance stayed constant (with no added braking) for the next 5 inches of travel then the brakes started working like I expected them to (braking over about three inches of travel). It seems to me like the braking should start when I start feeling the resistance and increase as I push. Any ideas on what would cause this?

Thanks,
Rick

Kinda difficult to troubleshoot over the internet, but I'll take a shot, are the brakes properly adjusted on all four wheels???

And bled completely?

Just guessing, but the rear brakes are adjusted properly, but the fronts are not. Are you sure they were bled correctly and completely?

Your speculation fits what I suspected. He said he couldn't get the front bled but he did bleed the rear.

They didn't feel like "typical" spongy brakes that you get when you don't bleed the system so I wasn't 100% sure on that thought though.
