First time installing an HEI in my '66 Chevelle. I have read I should run a 12 gauge wire from the fuse block the to the HEI, in place of the resistance wire.
Questions:
Will this cause any issues with being able to kill the engine using the switch, or do I use a source that is only hot when the switch is on?
There are three connections on the HEI. Which one goes to the fuse block?
Any other suggestions or concerns I need to be aware of??

Thanks...any and all help on electrical issues is appreciated. Not my strong point!

Yes, only use a power source that is hot when the key is on. I used a 12 ga. wire and ran it through the firewall to my radio fuse. When you look on the dist. cap you will see two terminals marked batt. and tach. The one marked batt. goes to the fuseblock this will be your dist. power wire. By the way you are right about the resistance wire do not use or splice into it. Hope this helps and I am sure others have done it differently, but this way has worked on several cars I have owned.

M&H sold me a new wire with the plug attached that replaces the original ignition wire in the engine harness. thats the route I went. it was cheap and has worked for years....
