You know you have to pull the drum... then you will find the problem. Look at the shoes to see how worn they are... you will need to either rebuild the wheel cylinder or replace it. Since you will have brake fluid on the shoes, you will need to replace them also. Since one wheel is bad, you should do both wheels.

Don't try to clean up the soaked shoes.... get new ones and replace them.

100% with Baer, dont reuse the old shoes better off replacing the wheel clyinders

While you are in there, replace both wheel cylinders, you'll be glad you did.

Not to be the harbinger of the plague or anything, but are you sure it's brake fluid? It could also be your axle seals have gone bad. I just pulled my diff out, and the seals had begun leaking. It hadn't advanced to a noticeable leak like yours, but it would have if I'd kept driving it.

Tom./.. good point.
Ok, stick your finger in it and if it smells like brake fluid... it is the brakes. If it smells like a rotten 30 million year old creature... then it would be from the rear end.

Good thinking Tom.

Bear is right I jumped right on the brakes. graemlins/clonk.gif It could be an axle seal leaking. If you do one you might want to do both sides. If you replace the shoes then a week later the other side starts to leak you will be very upset graemlins/angry.gif Also if you haven't done any brake work you might want to if it is in the buget ie. wheel cly, hardware, and shoes hope this helps.

One more wrinkle for you. If it is brake fluid chances are it also got on the seals and they will start to leak soon if not already.
