Hi Guys,
I'm real new on this forum but love the info and humor. Your expertise is amazing. I've learned more in a few short weeks than I ever expected to in a year. I'm looking for a 1970 convertible and came across this one on E-Bay. As a project with my teenage son I'd like to do a moderate amount of restoration to make a really nice driver out of a car. Show quality isn't needed, numbers matching would be great but unrealistic. I'm pretty sure only clones would be available... Ideally I'd like to spend low teens for a car that doesn't need too much body work. I'd like to be all in at no more than 25-30K. This car still seems pricey, but I thought I'd ask the experts. Thanks!
Bill

Sure does seem rather CHEAP Price for some reason???
What ever you do before you buy that car go look at it or at least have someone look at it for you.
looks to me they used a lot of black spray paint in the engine area and under the car as well as the trunk area. Also looks like the interior needs to be redone?

It looks like a nice driver already, but any time I see paint bubbling or rust holes you know there is going to be issues. Rust only gets worse.

Thanks, I plan on having it looked prior to bidding, if I decide to bid. Given that its a clone, do you still consider it to be a cheap price? Because of the 454?

My car looked similar before I started the restoration. After getting it blasted it looked like a rust bucket. Watch out for those rust bubbles.

I too would be worried about rust on that car.

Just the cheap price worries me, I would sure go over that car with a fine tooth comb, I am sure there is many issues with rust for that low of a price.
You just better look very good at that car or who ever you get to look at the car better know what to look for.

i'd say $15K for it.

The rust is gonna kill it.

Thanks for all the help. Does anybody live near Woburn, Massachusetts who is willing to look at the car? I was going to hire an inspection service, but will gladly pay one of you experts the going rate to give me an honest opinion as to how much Rustoleum I'd need!:D

I would start a new thread on having someone to look at the car for you.

For a clone that is a lot of money for a car that needs work. Flapper isnt working as a note.

OK, makes sense. Do you suggest it be placed in WIW, Bench Racing or Classifieds? Not sure where to post it. Thanks.

A close friend of mine bought a 70 454 ss convertible clone. The car came with or someone put many options in the car; A/C, power:brakes, steering and windows, Th400, 12 bolt with 3.31 posi. bucket seats, SS tach and guages. The interior was new and looked nice. The engine was a rebuilt LS6. The car had a cheap paint job done in the mid 80's and looked presentable but every side panel was filled with body filler. He bought the car for 25k 2 years ago. He felt he got a good deal

The SS dash looks to be a 71. Incorrect lighter & head light knobs. The gauges are probably the white faced gages also. Look it over really good. I would be concerned about the frame also.

I do like the color of the car.
