: Converted to Disks, now no brakes

Hi all,

I made the tall spindle swap on my 66 Malibu. It already had power brakes, so I changed the master to one for disk/drum brakes. I bled the entire system, and the pedal is quite hard and off the floor, but the brakes are terrible. There doesn't seem to be any difference in feel between when the car is running and when it isn't. The brakes never go to the floor, but they don't want to stop the car very well either.

The booster was working before I made the swap, so I am sort of at a loss. Any ideas.

Thanks in advance.

Ian

Same thing happened to me. Give it 50 to a 100 miles of normal driving, no hard braking, and you'll see the difference. You must be patient grasshopper.

On a 66, Would be a single to dual master cyl???
When you split the front & rear lines, They are to the correct port of the proportioning valve???
If you reused your old booster, Is the plunger rod the correct length for the new master cyl???

Drive some eh? Maybe I'll try that, but it kinda scares me, not being sure if I could stop the car in a hurry.

FYI, I had the dual master on before, but had to change masters simply for the dick requirements. I had not thought of checking the pushrod length because of this. I will verify before going further.

Thanks.

If you had a dual already I think the rod would be the same. Did you install the Disk/Drum proportioning valve?
I remember when I changed my 64 over from single to power Disk/Drum, The length of the plunger rod was a issue.

I have installed an adjustable prop valve, and started with a mid-way setting to try to set it up. That would only affect the pressure to the rears though.

Do you know what the signs are when the power booster has failed?
