: '70 Chevelle master cylinder brake lines-should this be a red flag?

All real SS cars that I've noticed have the brake lines wrap around the side of the brake booster and go behind it.

On all cars that disc brakes were added including clones the brake lines come up from the bottom. My thinking is the lines went to the master cylinder and when a brake booster is added the lines are too short to wrap around the back of the brake booster.

Should this be a red flag when looking for a real SS car just like the bolt in steering shaft?

There's a supposedly real LS6 car on ebay now that has the brake lines running like I described when disc brakes are added.

Need some expert opinions on this subject. Thanks!

Yep, 70 the lines are supposed to go back around the back of the booster and have a clip that bolts to the booster. The front line goes to the cast iron delay valve under the master cylinder, then rejoins the rear line to the distribution valve.

Mike, I know your on the hunt but if Mershons has this car, I would venture to say they are looking for a lot more than where it's sitting now on Ebay. My guess would be mid to high 50's.

I know it's way out of my price range. Just pointing out things that don't look correct and trying to get more educated on what to look for. With no build sheet, I don't want to pay $35K for a clone.

Just click on the picture, Dean.

THose brake lines are definately janky. They match the janky power steering hoses though....

I personally would doubt any car that did not have the build sheet that I could see to be sure it was legit. Either that, or the original block with the original stamp. But then, you need to know what to look for there as well.

Yup. I need to publish my own dictionary.... :D

Janky (JANK-ee) noun; 1. Something that is cobbled together, with new parts or used, but is still incorrect for the vehicle.

Hoopty (HOOP-tee) noun; 1. Any vehicle that has mismatched paint, rust showing, torn interior parts/pieces, a Jensen or Kraco speaker on the floor etc... especially applies if the car is Red with primer.... like mine :D

So if a car has a foot print gas pedal in it, does that classify it as hoopty?

One thing I never noticed on this '70 454 car. The vacuum line coming from the booster is connected to the manifold. It kind of caught me off guard since my '71 has the line going to the base of the carb.

Brake lines wrapping around the back of the booster aren't just on SS cars. My smallblock with original power brakes is the same.

I look at lots of hoopties and jankys from craigslist everyday ;)
We used to call them toilets, but decided we'd get into the 21st century
Watch out for hoopties with big dukey pipes too :D
...and this is my 22,000 post :clonk:

The mershon car also has the correct upper alternator bracket, but the wrong pulley and probably the wrong the alternator
