: Shiny Hiney lED Tail light installation (wiring question)
mjdwyer23 Nov 6th, 09, 4:47 PM Hi Folks-
I just mounted my Shiny Hiney LED tails in the housings and am now about to wire them. In the instructions, it says to "connect the wire from the tail light circuit to the black wire" and "connect the wire from the brake light circuit to the red wire" on the supplied harness. Which wire is which on my 70 chevelle?
Thanks!
mjdwyer23 Nov 6th, 09, 5:17 PM OK, I hooked up black to brown and red to yellow(L) and green(R), now none of my rear lights work. Oy.
mjdwyer23 Nov 6th, 09, 6:22 PM BTW, everything worked perfectly before I took it apart. Typical!
yellow is left turn/brake
green is right turn/brake
brown is both side taillights.
Sounds to me like you have the black-ground connected to the taillights.
mjdwyer23 Nov 6th, 09, 6:51 PM The LEDs are grounded to the tail light housing, red and black are for control.
yellow is left turn/brake
green is right turn/brake
brown is both side taillights.
mjdwyer23 Nov 6th, 09, 7:57 PM Cool, sounds like I have it wired correctly. Maybe the LED boards are bad. I've got a call into Wade @ SH, we'll see what he thinks.

Spit up coffee----and tears come into my eyes.
I just love it when someone types EXACTLY what they are thinking (keeping it clean, of course)
Run a ground wire or strap from from the circuit board to the housing, and from the housing to the body.
Removing the housing or altering anything can change how something will ground, if it is not perfectly clean.
Had similar issues with the taillight and front turn housings on my 59.
Now all of the housings (headlight/taillight/park) have ground wires connected to them and are positively grounded to a point on the body.
Dean Nov 8th, 09, 10:09 AM Don'tcha mean "negatively grounded" Bryan?
l:)
mjdwyer23 Nov 9th, 09, 5:50 PM Update: i ran grounds from the stud on the board right to the frame -- Lights work AWESOME! They are super bright at night! Thanks to you guys and Wade at SH for support!
mjdwyer23 Nov 10th, 09, 5:33 PM I fixed the PS board IMMEDIATELY after I watched this!
