: Lower front control arms- where do the cracks form?

I was just checking out my suspension, and since I will be changing the steering box, I thought I'd also check the control arms for cracks...

I I know these will be near the ball-joint, but do they usually occur on the front-side or back-side (or either?)?

And does the crack usually start/propagate from the ball joint out? Thats what I would assume...

Some reason, I just got paranoid all of a sudden...

New lower arms are out of the question (I'd like them, but its gonna be a year or two until I can work them into the budget)...

Thanks,

Tony

Sorry, I can't answer your question as of if they form front or back. But I can't tell you (like you said) they do form around the ball joint. Just remove the rust if any and look for hairline cracks.
good luck,

Yikes!

Do you sell those reinforcement plates? How much for a fellow TC member?

Beaux,

Didn't you get the GW lowers? or just the upper arms?

I just got an ARG steering box yesterday, and was looking at the car and started thinking about those cracking Arms...

I might think about Pete's kit, but not for now. I don't know if I'd have enough time to pull my arms off, take them to a welder, wait, pick up and reinstall before Hot August Nights...

I really like the GW lowers, but with the price (along with all the brake/suspension/wheels/tire upgrades I want to do, well, the "new" lower arms are low on the list... All the more reason to look at these kits...

Have fun at the BBQ... I was thinking about trying to make it, but no way... 6 hours just for travel... The wife would beat on the Chevelle for sure...
