OK, I've searched through the forums and found lots of references to how to remove the window crank handle using the Y shaped tool that all auto parts stores have. Didn't see a good post on reinstalling them. I removed the crank handles many months ago, and now can't figure out how to use the tool to install the C clips. Also not sure which direction the C clips go on the crank handle shaft slot. Please be as detailed as possible, as I'm greatly frustrated having tried to figure this out myself. Thanks.

You don't need a tool to install the crank.
The open end of the C clip faces the crank side of the handle (long side). To install, put the C clip on the handle, then just press it on to the regulator shaft. It should pop on and stay.

I recently had my window cranks off. I needed the tool to take them off, but did not need it to put them back on. Once I had the clip in the right spot, you can push the crank back on, and it won't come back off without the tool. Say if you're holding the crank handle, looking at the back of it, with the lever pointing down (i.e. towards the six o'clock position). The mouth of the clip points also points down toward the six o'clock position after it is placed around the splined shaft. Where the clip curves inward, that part will slip through the grooves on the side of the splined shaft, so part of the clip is then inside the splined shaft, which will hold the crank in place. You kind of have to snap the clip into the right spot. Hope this helps.
