: 70 only dist block (LS6?)
Chevy 70 SS vert Feb 24th, 05, 10:34 PM I am installing my new Stainless Steel brakes lines today. Spent most of the day trying to get them in. The front lines up well, goes into the splitter front dist block and matches up fine. The rear stops 4-5" ahead of the rear axle and turns directly to the differential and then they sent a second line which I assume attaches to this line to finish the line back up to the frame. But no female connector was sent. Finally after fighting this for the day a friend called the Right Stuff, where we got the lines, and we learned these lines are set up for a REAR distribution block, which the guy at the Right stuff said we wouldn't find?? He's right. There isn't one on the car. He sugeested we order a '71 and later line. Has any body got one of these REAR Distribution blocks? On their car? Can somebody post a photo of one? As I am curious now to see what it looks like? Now that I think of it, I heard at one time that only true SS LS6 cars got them. Any truth to this?
Jeff74 Feb 24th, 05, 10:57 PM My 70 396 elcamino has it, when I ordered my lines they forgot to send the short line with my kit :(
MadMarv Feb 24th, 05, 10:59 PM I've got one on mine (70 LS5), its a brass block thats not very big, 4-5" seems too big of a gap to be bridged by the block. I almost threw it away with the OEM lines when I was doing the resto. I think the only pictures I have of it are paper photos that I don't have a scanner for anymore. I don't think you can get this block from any of the repro companies. Like I said though, I don't recall it being more than 2-3" at the most.

Chevy 70 SS vert Mar 1st, 05, 11:20 PM Next Sonic cruise in? I would like to see it!
Jim Mac Mar 2nd, 05, 12:35 AM whats the purpose of the block? It looks like one line going in and one coming out, It looks like a coupling would do the same thing or is it actually a residual valve? Jim
70Z15 Mar 2nd, 05, 10:51 AM Here is the one on my 70 SS 396. Rear Valve (http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/70Z15/rearvalve.JPG)
I used Stainless lines from 'Right Stuff'. They lined up perfectly.
Chevy 70 SS vert Mar 2nd, 05, 9:17 PM Thanks for the pic. From what I understand, there is nothing inside, its just a connecting line for the 2 brake lines. Somebody else correct me if I am wrong.

70Z15 Mar 3rd, 05, 9:46 AM I believe there's more to it. If you look closer (http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/70Z15/rearvalve.jpg), you can see a large nut at the bottom. Also, the thing has a distinct shape to it. If it was just a coupler, I think it would be simpler, just a female/female fitting etc...
chevry Mar 3rd, 05, 12:41 PM It is a proportioning valve. Also listed as a rear brake pressure regulator. There probably should also be a metering valve next to the master cylinder.... a small roundish valve. They combined them and the warning switch together in 71.
Chevy 70 SS vert Apr 14th, 05, 12:10 AM I got one now, and it definitelty appears to have something inside. It is now installed and it lined up great with my Right stuff brake lines.
My theory on this valve has now changed, I am still guessing, but it is my guess that all 70's with factory power brakes came with this valve installed from day one.
Jim Mac Apr 14th, 05, 12:14 AM my 70 malibu has one, originally power disc brake car Jim
