any idea what the proper letter stamp would be on a 1968 L78 4speed car?

I was under the impression the 68 L78 used an 1100814 alternator. It is basically the same alternator used in 69-70 that carried part # 1100837 except the 68 814 doesn't have the boss on the rear case for the 69-up rear support brace. Maybe a 68 expert will chime in here?

Chris, after I did a little more research, I believe you could be right. I can't find the 814 listed anywhere for Chevelles, but it is listed in Colvin's book for the Z28 Camaro and the 425HP 427 in the passenger car. It follows that the 814 would be the alternator for all the solid lifter motors. Damned books.:)
